Grading Of Buffalo Nickels
We grade Buffalo Nickels using "real world" grading. We grade a coin by looking at all areas of the coin. We do not focus in on a specific area of the coin and use that to determine the grade, for example the horn tip on the buffalo. Many dates and mint marks have weak strikes and can appear to be a lessor grade than they actually are. Some dates in XF and higher grades do not have a fully defined horn tip on the buffalo.
If a coin is an overall VF but has a weak horn tip, we grade it VF and price it accordingly. Likewise, if a coin is an overall Fine but some on the letters are touching the rim, we grade it Fine, not VG.
If you are expecting VF coins at Fine price, or Fine coins at a VG price, please do not order.
