The seal on the reverse contains 12 small stars, representing the original 12 tribes of the Shawnee Indian Nation.
On the night when Tecumseh was born, there was an incredible meteor shower. The elders in the tribe took this to be an omen, and pronounced that this baby would go on to be a great leader.
Tecumseh believed that Indians must not sell their land. But in 1809, tribes in the Indiana Territory ceded much of their land to the United States. Tecumseh protested to Gov. William Henry Harrison but in vain. A few years later, the Chief joined the British against the Americans in the War of 1812. As a brigadier general, Tecumseh led 2,000 warriors in many battles, until he was killed at Chatham, Ontario.
The purpose of the expedition, as specified by President Jefferson, was "to explore the Missouri river & such principal stream of it as by its course and communication with the waters of the Pacific ocean, whether the Columbia, Oregon, Colorado or any other river may offer the most direct & practicable water communication across this continent for the purpose of commerce."

Poarch Creek 2004 Silver Dollars
The Poarch Band of Creek Indians have lived together for nearly 150 years. They are a segment of the original Creek Nation that occupied a territory covering nearly all of Georgia and Alabama. The war of 1812 divided the Creek Nation between an Upper party hostile to the United States and a group of Upper and Lower Creeks friendly to the government. The Creek Nation reluctantly agreed to an enormous cession of land to the United States.
Those Creeks who had actively fought with the United States were permitted a reservation of one square mile in Alabama. Today, there are approximately 2.270 members of the Poarch Creek Indian Tribe. On August 11, 1984, the United States Government, Department of Interior, and the Bureau of Indian Affairs acknowledged the Poarch Creek Indians as a Sovereign Indian Nation.
Each BU coin comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. Each Proof Coin also includes a pouch embossed with the logo of the Sovereign Nation of Poarch Creek Indians.
Tribal Chairman Eddie L. Tullis authorized the issuance of their first coins in 2004 to commemorate the 20th. Anniversary of Recognition of the Sovereign Nation of Poarch Creek Indians by the Unicted States.
