On October 15, 2003, the new Iraqi Dinar Banknotes were launched by the Central Bank of Iraq in cooperation with the Coalition Provisional Authority in the denominations of 50, 250, 500, 1000, 5000, 10000 and 25000.
The new Iraqi banknotes, printed by De La Rue, have cutting edge anti-counterfeit features, including watermarks, a security thread, raised letters, an optical variable ink and other variations to deter counterfeiters. The new Iraqi currency supercedes all previous 'Saddam' Dinar.
Iraq is one of the richest countries in oil reserves. According to recent releases by the US Department of State, the economic recovery of Iraq is in process and occurring quickly. Iraq now has a stable currency; the Dinar has already risen almost 50 percent over the past year. As stability is restored and oil production continues to increase, this trend is expected to continue. The Iraqi dinar has already risen in value against the US dollar and it continues to rise.
